Sunshine Coast Council held a meeting at the hall to provide an opportunity for local residents to respond to Council’s plan to establish a dark sky reserve at the Kirby Rd Environmental Reserve in the Obi Valley.

A recent community dinner held at the hall

An endangered Mary River Turtle (Elusor macrurus) was released back into Baxter Creek

in the Obi Valley.

It had been found in a weakened state and was rehabilitated by Wildlife Rescue from Australia Zoo

The Mary River turtle is a species of turtle that is capable of ‘cloacal breathing’, whereby they breathe oxygen underwater through their cloaca. This allows Mary River turtles to stay submerged for days at a time without the need to come to the surface to breathe. (from Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary)
