A neighbours information session regarding the Kirbys Road Environment Reserve was held at Obi Obi Hall. At this Sunshine Coast Council organized session concerns expressed by local residents were addressed. With a commitment to keep local residents more informed about activity in the Reserve by the way of a twice yearly newsletter.
In 2011, Council purchased the 213.36ha reserve under the Environment Levy and Acquisition Program. Located in the Obi Obi valley in the upper catchment of the Mary River, Kirbys Road Environment Reserve provides a wide range of habitat for many different native plants and animals.

Council purchased the property for the conservation of wildlife, to protect some of the Sunshine Coast’s poorly conserved ecosystems, and to restore an important habitat corridor connecting Kondalilla National Park with Maleny National Park.
At Kirbys Road Environment Reserve, a community planting event will be held on the 19th of October
