10.00 am on Wednesday 18.06.08, the bird free Obi Obi Hall was once again the place to enjoy another Pam and Cindy morning tea. The actual purpose of this visit was to acquaint the councillors who represent the Obi and Kidaman area’s with the activities of our Association and the Obi Obi Rural Fire Brigade. The Obi Obi Hall property is within the boundary of Jenny’s division 5 and Paul’s division 10 includes part of the Obi valley, so Jenny and Paul both attended this gathering. Over tea and cake we were able to give Paul and Jenny an overview of our plans for the Obi Property, our dealings with the previous Maroochy Shire Council and a small history of the recent steps along the way. The roots of this development goes back to 1992 and the progress to now is quite a story. Paul and Jenny were able to provide us with good information regarding grants, some practical tips on the management of the affairs of the Association and expressed their willingness to help with the Obi Project.

A message from our President

Go Team

I’m truly amazed at the team we have working together on this project. There is so much excitement and very motivated people putting in their time and effort. This most amazing team all have one agenda and that is to have the Obi Hall back to her glorious original self. Like any project there is a lot of homework that needs to be undertaken before any ground work gets started. I’m happy to report that the team all have been doing this and are making great progress towards the restoration of the Obi Hall.

This project could not happen if it was not for the hard work and many hours spent investigating all options by the Management and Building committee’s. From many little things, big things grow.

Thank you to you all, you know who you are!!!

Cindy

A Management and Building Committee’s meeting

A meeting was held at the Obi Obi Hall on 14.06.08

Dennis Woodford, Cindy MacDonald, Alexina Johnson, John McKenzie, Will MacDonald and Zoë MacDonald met to discuss the hall renovation.

Progress to date.

Quotes for the repair of the roof, cladding and stumps are in progress. Two building surveyors have been contacted regarding the use of their services.

Planning.

In order for contractors to be able to advise properly, a final plan for the hall facilities and the location of the toilet block has to be decided.

1. The hall. The kitchen type and location. Three options were discussed at our last general meeting on the 18.05.08, one proposed a kitchen and verandah addition on the side of the hall. The meeting decided that with limited funds, the highest priority should be the renovation of the hall and that the verandah and commercial kitchen extension could be undertaken in the future. The existing partitioned area was deemed not to be suitable. It was decided to plan for the addition of a small but complete kitchen extension to the right hand side of the stage. The proposed kitchen will be a great improvement on the most inadequate facilities available at present.

2. The placement of the toilet block is dependent on the type and location of the sewage treatment system. The soil structure determines the location and what type of treatment system is used. The first step will be to engage a soil evaluator to test the soil.

Next

A soil evaluation test to be carried out. There is no electricity connected to the hall. An electrician is to be engaged to inspect the halls wiring, to allow electricity connection. Building contractor’s to be consulted.
