Meeting at the Obi Hall on 18.05.08

An informal meeting and successful working bee was held at the Obi hall on a windy Sunday afternoon.

An energetic, enthusiastic group consisting of  Will, Cindy and Zoe MacDonald, Pam and Ruby Engle, Allan Scott, Graham Beljon, Dennis Woodford, John Cutmore and new members Rodney and Jim Heading spent several hours simultaneously discussing the repair of the hall and blocking up all possible bird entry points.

Will and Cindy MacDonald provided the wire netting used to block up the holes. The gaps in the weatherboards were covered over with tin sheeting.

The Hall was also swept of bird droppings, hopefully for the last time.

Pam and Cindy had a competition to provide the best afternoon tea. Both came well prepared each bringing their own hot water supply. The result. Equal 1st place.

Rodney Heading fitting wire netting.

As most of the afternoon was taken up with the working bee, there was no time for a formal meeting. Bob Dyer called in during the afternoon and helped providing information regarding grants and the renovation.

Roger Todd’s latest drawings were discussed. These new drawings include a proposal for a large kitchen and verandah on the northern side of the hall. At present the hall has no kitchen facilities and there are three options for the establishment of a kitchen being explored.

1. Small, in the existing sectioned off corner.

2. Add a small section beside the stage.

3. The large kitchen and verandah extension.

The use of the space under the stage for water storage was a option raised.

The meeting finished late in the afternoon with all being happy with the results obtained.

The next meeting will be a Management Committee meeting on the 27.05.08.

Kidaman Creek Hall Management Committee

Next meeting on 18.05.08 – SUNDAY

Our next general meeting will now be held on the 18.05.08, 1.30 pm at the Obi Obi Hall property. As well as discussing the Obi Obi building project we are hoping to do some building work on the Obi Obi hall. At present the swallows own the hall. They have been getting in through various broken boards up under the eaves and some missing exterior weather boards. Because of the birds, it is impossible to keep the hall clean. To block the access, boards need to be nailed across the gaps or wire netting could be used. It will be all ladder work and there is no electric power to the hall.

Our bank Account.

The management committee has been dealing with the changing of the signatures on our bank account, to allow our new treasurer to manage the account. Sounds simple, but no, it always takes ages because you are dealing with an association. There is extra security, involves multiple people and requires written approval of the association.

Funds

Inquiries are being made with people who could submit grant applications on our behalf. We have already contacted one company called “Red Tape Busters” and will appraise others. Red tape busters have a web site.

Boundary Fence

We need to fence out our neighbours cows. That requires fencing one side and the rear boundary and a cattle grid installed at the rear of the property. We have been given an rough quote for a fence, using barbed wire and wooden posts, up to $2,000.00. A Hooper’s steel cattle grid $2,145.00 plus the cost of placing it in the road.

Our Blog

The structure of our Blog has been changing. This Blog is being developed using the generate and test (trial & error) system. The management Committee asks that members be patient with us while we try to work out what a blog is and how to use it to out best advantage.

As many members have a dial up internet connection, we use small file sizes for the photographs. This may result in poor quality images, but does allow them to load quicker.

https://kidobi.wordpress.com/ is the new address for our Blog.
